Away in a manger

Home visiting my parents after a flight cancelation. This nativity scene has been part of so many Christmases. I have no religion now, but still an attachment to things like this from the past, particularly as my mom’s memory declines.

, what are your processes for getting into a photographic headspace?

What do you do to bring out your creativity as a photographer/photo editor/photobook or zine maker?

How do your artistic practices help you make your work?

Day 22 of the #ArtAdventCalendar, we're nearing the end of 24 days of lonely isloated panoramic photos from the prairies!

Gonna post some near-misses with slide film today! Film is finicky and difficult sometimes and it's okay if we don't always get it spot-on. CW eye contact.

1. Veiling flare from shooting toward the sun. The light through the trees was *chef's kiss*, but I needed a lens shade.

2. Almost! The scene just had too much dynamic range, creating harsh shadows. More even light or fill flash would have helped.

If you enjoy someone's post on #Mastodon go ahead and click the star. If someone tells you that's meaningless because there's no #algorithm, ignore them. Sure, boost the post too if you want others to also see the post, but don't think telling someone you like what they posted is somehow unimportant. In real life I don't tell someone, "good job," or "well said," or "I love that," for the sake of some algorithm, I do it because I'm human and they are too. It's fundamental to being truly social.

Today's is an 11"x14" gold toned salt print, "Lee Vining Junco"

I spent couple hrs in the darkroom on my birthday(10/Dec).
And this is one of the prints I made then.
I’m happy with the result😊

“You can find us anywhere you get your podcasts.”

I *adore* this phrase, because it has been like two whole-ass decades and not one single venture capital darling has managed to unseat plain RSS as the distribution method for podcasts. Not one. (And they have really tried!)

Podcasts are just out there, like air. You don’t go to one place to get them; you get them from everywhere and anywhere. You can choose how you want to engage with them and manage them and it is legitimately heartwarming that nothing has ever gotten in the way of that being a fundamental fact.

This is the best of what the web is. It will never have a stock ticker or even a marketing scheme. Most people don’t even know it is there. But it endures (past the many, many attempts by squillionaire corporates to kill it) because of its absolute unshakable utility.

My suggestion: any time you hear “anywhere you get your podcasts”, send a little thanks to RSS for keeping the real web alive.
