Once the paper is dry, the negative is placed face down on top of it. It's then secured and flattened against the paper with a piece of acrylic and some clamps.

It's now ready to be exposed, so I place it in my DIY UV exposure unit for 35 minutes.

Here is the image I'm printing. It's a digital photo taken with an infrared converted Sony mirrorless camera.

I take the image and convert it into a negative with special adjustments suited to this process.

I print the negative with a normal inkjet printer onto a special transparency film. Using red helps block a broader range of ultraviolet light, which is what we expose our paper with to create an image.

In 1839 they would have used a paper negative!

Recently in it was the "Daidougei World Cup", something of a contest for performers including acrobats and clowns. I was really pleased how these came out, particularly the performer's expression in the second shot!

A wee tip for new Mastodon photographers like me - if you caption your photographs so that those with sight impairments can enjoy them (and you really should, it only takes a minute), at the same time you can decide which part of your image is shown in the small preview in your post by moving the target sight. It really helps if your subject is way off-centre in your composition #tips

Time for another tiny moss world!

This was probably the photograph that got me started on the moss thing - I intended just a throwaway test roll for a cheap eBay camera, but I was blown away by the results and haven't looked back since.

This became my goto film, camera, & lens combo for colour work:

Canon EOS 300
Canon EF 100mm f2.8 macro
Fuji Superia X-Tra 400
